Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from her family, she was grew up by her mother godparents and grandmother. As a child she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to associations with words. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. She was a part of at the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. But after just a few weeks, she realized Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place for her. Ford applied instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and finally won a position on her fourth try. Her classmate were Shaun Dingwall, who would be later reprise her role in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford could graduate in 1993, but she already made a TV appearance on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the title Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Alongside her usual theatre work, Tate joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate was first noticed for her stand up comedy in 1996.
